Possible Side Effects

Please contact your veterinarian immediately if you notice any of the following reactions: loss or increase of appetite, nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, nervousness, increased drinking or urination, seizures or abnormal heart rhythms. These symptoms usually disappear after the medication has been given for a while. An allergic reaction is possible in those allergic to Theophylline. Other side effects are possible.

Drug & Food Interactions

Notify your veterinarian of any other medications, including vitamins and supplements, your pet is taking before using Theophylline. This medication may decrease the absorption of digoxin (blood pressure support). It may also decrease the absorption of folate (folic acid). Other drug interactions may occur.

Precautions

Do not give Theophylline to pets who are allergic to it or similar medications, such as xanthines, theobromine or caffeine. Pets who are very young, obese, debilitated, elderly, with severe heart disease, irregular heartbeats, stomach ulcers, hyperthyroidism, liver or kidney disease, hypoxia, high blood pressure or a seizure history may have trouble with this medication and it should only be used when your veterinarian thinks the benefits outweigh the risks.
